Hello, my name is…
Emilie!
What does fashion mean to you?
I think fashion is unique and has a different meaning to everyone. Personally, I think it’s just a fun way to creatively express yourself to everybody without having to personally interact, it lets people know a little bit about you. For me it’s about being comfortable in what I wear but for the characters I draw it’s about trying to suggest something about themselves or the world they live in without the restrictions of comfort or wearability.
Tell us about your art.
I think I would describe my art as 70% creepy and 30% cute. I love using pastel colours and typically very feminine iconography (like flowers and hearts) and contrasting it with sharp lines, and mechanical and horror imagery. I like to think of it as cutely-unsettling. I’m really inspired by people like Junji Ito, Satoshi Kon, and Tim Burton and I take a lot of inspiration from vintage fashion/items and Japanese subculture groups like Visual kei. More recently, I’ve been trying to create illustrations that imply more of a storyline or situation and they’re definitely my favourite pieces.
Any last words?
Thank you for checking out my art, I’d love to interact on Instagram! (Thank you The COMM for featuring me!)
