Haruka Kurebayashi
What is “kawaii” in your opinion?
To me “kawaii” is expressing the things I like, the way I like. But it is also about appreciating another person’s point of view.
Who/what inspires your fashion?
My grandma. When she knows she will have a visitor, she gets all dolled up. She’ll wear special make-up for that day. And she loves clothes too. She has always been fiercely passionate about her love for clothes and having a “theme of the day”. Everything I love about fashion, I learned from her.
What is a key component of your co-ordinates?
Colour! I have, inside of me, a really solid understanding of colour that others just don’t really get.
How has your style changed over time?
I’ve always known what I wanted to wear, ever since I was a child. I would see things and be like “I wanna wear that”’. Whether it’s head-to-toe camouflage or a cow onesie, I have such a passion for fashion. Around middle school, it was Gyaru fashion. In high school, it was Rock-kei. After graduation, Decora was my main thing. No matter what stage I’ve been at in my life, I have always had colour.
Where is your favourite place in the world? Which country would you like to visit?
It would be hard to pick my favourite place because they are all equal in the sense that they are all places that exist on Earth. But if I had to choose, I think it would have to be Harajuku. Right now, I want to visit Mexico, Thailand, and Egypt. ♡
What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of fashion?
Outside of fashion, I’m really into giraffes and good health. I really like the yellow colour of giraffes, and I also like that they have long necks and eyelashes. I have this huge giraffe in my room—I’m always staring at it. My other interest is healthy living. I don’t want to get stressed so every day I make it a point to only do the things I want to do! I think that is my secret to good health. I also drink a variety of nutrient-rich juices everyday.
Any last words?
I will also be going to a number of events in different countries this year! Hope to see you there.
