Explore Harajuku Culture with VR
Harajuku is known all over the world for being a hub of fashion innovation and pop culture. But, it seems like things that once made Harajuku a street style powerhouse are starting to disappear. Just when more effort was being made to bring the town back to its roots, the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, killing off iconic Harajuku stores like Faline and the Kawaii Monster Cafe!
Is this the end of the Harajuku we once knew? Fear not, Virtual Harajuku is here to jump-start the town and prove that Harajuku culture is not dying. Virtual Harajuku is a continuation of last year’s Virtual Shibuya Halloween event. The series of events that will allow owners of VR headsets to take a virtual trip around Tokyo. You can explore Harajuku’s iconic Jingumae intersection and discover fashion meccas like Laforet without having to set foot outside of your house! There will be lots of games, including a stamp rally where you can collect stamps hidden around the area and win lots of fun prizes!
With “Creating new pop culture” as its theme, Virtual Harajuku hopes to inspire something different in the area with celebrity live VR performances from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and RiRi. Karaoke app, Karasta, will also be on the hunt for the next generation of Harajuku pop stars! (Winning contestants will be able to perform on a virtual stage.)
Virtual Harajuku will run from 25 May to 31 May and won’t cost you a penny to attend! Just download the Cluster app, get a headset and you’re ready to go!
