Beauty Call: Juni

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Bright, colourful, weird, or wonderful—the Japanese street fashion community is home to a wealth of creatives who reimagine themselves with their make-up artistry on a daily basis. Flower stamps, neon lips… a wicked black wing? Make-up transforms and redefines beauty, and Beauty Call is here to introduce and showcase some of the new faces within our community.

Please introduce yourself!

Hi, my name’s Juni. I don’t know why I picked “Faketeeth” as my alias, but that’s where you’ll find me! I currently live in Stockholm, Sweden, and work as a makeup artist.

How did you get into make-up?

I got into makeup through the type of music I liked when I was a kid. I used to really dislike make-up because all the mean girls in school wore it, but with the music I realized it could be fun and expressive. I love drawing, so I found a new connection there I think.

Tell us about your favourite look and the inspiration behind it!

My recent favourite is one I did with a blue lid and neon details. I don’t like when there are too many colours, and my first attempt looked really bad. I love mixing warm and cool tones so that’s what first gave me the idea.

What does beauty mean to you?

I don’t know. The word “beauty” makes me think of something I’m striving for that I will never be. At the same time, anything can be beautiful, especially things that aren’t.
